How it works
The "vig" (also called juice or margin) is the sportsbook's built-in cut. If the implied probabilities of all outcomes in a market add up to more than 100%, the extra is the margin (the "overround"). "Hold" restates that as a share of the money wagered if wagers balance. "Margin removed" probabilities rescale the implied probabilities to total 100%; that is arithmetic, not a forecast of who will win.
The math
Total = sum of 1/decimal for every outcome. Overround = total - 1.
Hold = 1 - 1/total.
Margin-removed probability for an outcome = its implied probability / total.
Worked examples
-110 and -110: total 104.76%, overround 4.76%, hold 4.55%, and each side is 50.00% with the margin removed.
+150 and -150: implied 40.00% + 60.00% = 100.00%, so no margin.
What this calculator does not do: it does not tell you what to bet, whether a bet is good value, or how likely any real game outcome is. It only does arithmetic on the numbers you enter, in your browser; nothing you type is sent or saved.
